About Christine’s Room

Welcome to my pages, I’m Christine M. Kendall, a poet in the Methow Valley in Central Washington. I began writing poetry in my 20s. I enjoy reading my work at open mics, and hearing and reading the work of other poets. On my pages I plan to share my poetry with others, and hope to connect with other poets or readers of poetry. I am a member of Confluence Poets in the Methow, we meet twice monthly and sponsor events.  My poetry has been published in several journals, and I’ve recently published a second collection, Resting in the Familiar available at Village Books in Bellingham, Washington.  They will ship the book for only 99 cents above cost.

In Bellingham, I frequently read my poetry at Chuckanut Sandstone Theater and other open mics. I became a member of Mary Gillilan’s, Independent Writers’ Studio. My partner Jack, a photographer, and I moved to Twisp, Washington five years ago surprising everyone who knew us. For us it met our desire for more open space, a felt need as we traveled through the Western and Southwestern states on vacations. We found what we were looking for here. Our town is without stop lights, and we live in a home on 20 acres with a lovely creek running behind it.

In other pursuits I enjoy walking, snowshoe walks, horseback riding, gardening, theatre and reading poetry, fiction, non-fiction, and almost anything I can get my hands or eyes on. I worked as a Library Specialist at Western Washington University in Bellingham for twenty-eight years and at the Bellingham Public Library two years prior to that. My poetry is about my life experiences past and present, and what I see outside my windows. For my first 17 years, as an Air Force brat, I lived in Washington, California, Nevada, France, Germany, spent summers in England, moved to Arizona and later to Bellingham, Washington. I traveled in my late teens and early 20s to Thailand, Vietnam, Germany, England and Ireland. I enjoy participating in August Postcard Poetry, and World Peace Poetry in February, writing a poem a day I send out to other participants of these events.
